About the practice
Northland Plastic Surgery was established in 1989 by plastic surgeon David Crabb. With the clinical practice, David provided much needed private plastic surgery services in the region whilst also providing services in the public sector for the Northland District Health Board. The practice has had its home in several locations over the years but settled in its current location at 4 Vinery Lane in 1995.

The practice has treated many thousands of patients in over the years and has built up a reputation for excellence regionally and nationally. Northland Plastic Surgery is the only plastic surgery provider with surgeons that are based in Northland and offer the full range of plastic surgery services including cosmetic surgery, hand and wrist surgery, skin cancer treatment and aesthetic breast surgery.
Our Expertise
Chris Powell, an experienced UK-trained plastic surgeon, joined the practice in 2021. Having worked alongside David for 12 months, Chris became familiar with David’s clinical practices and surgical techniques, particularly his expertise in the use of lipomodelling, a technique that involves transferring fat from a donor site (such as the stomach or thighs) to the breast.

David Crabb retired in 2022 and Chris Powell took over as principal surgeon for the practice. His intention is to provide the same excellent service and care to Northland patients. As a fellowship trained specialist in hand and wrist surgery, Chris will provide the same services as previously offered, with the addition of more specialist hand and wrist surgical procedures that were previously not available in Northland.
Northland Plastic Surgery’s services are accessible to privately funded patients, those with ACC claims, and patients with medical insurance (such as Southern Cross). For more information, please contact us.
Chris Powell
Principal Surgeon
Chris is an experienced plastic surgeon trained in the UK, with expertise in all aspects of plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery, cosmetic surgery, skin cancer surgery, and breast surgery. He has a special interest in hand and wrist surgery and offers a full scope of surgical procedures in this specialised field.
Since March 2021, Chris has worked alongside David Crabb at both Whangarei base hospital and Northland Plastic Surgery. Working closely with David for his first year at Northland Plastic Surgery allowed Chris to continue the important work that David started providing lipomodelling and treating Northland women who have had previous silicone breast implants removed or who prefer augmentation with their own tissue rather than implants.

Practice Manager
Alison has been in the health sector for nearly 30 yrs. 15 of those at Northland Plastic Surgery.
She is passionate about helping our patients access our services ensuring our systems and processes work smoothly.
She enjoys talking with new patients who may inquire about a procedure or assist with a general inquiry.
Nicola Groves
General Manager
Nicola is the general manager and a director at Northland Plastic Surgery. She has a background in education, business analysis and hospitality. Nicola manages general administration as well as occasional patient management. She is excited to keep developing the practice and help bring the best possible experience to clients of Northland Plastic Surgery.
Sharleen Voss
Sharleen has been a theatre nurse since graduation and with Northland Plastic Surgery for eight years.
She lives with her husband in Waipu Cove, has four grown daughters, four granddaughters and three grandsons.
