About Chris Powell

Chris graduated from the University of Bristol Medical School in the UK in 2001 and gained his junior surgical and plastic surgical training in several London teaching hospitals. He completed his senior plastic surgical training in Exeter and Bristol in Southwest England.

In 2015, Chris completed a year of higher specialist training in Hand and Wrist Surgery with the Victorian Hand Surgery Associates at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. He learned all aspects of hand surgery from world-leading experts. Consequently, he is well versed in the full scope of hand and wrist surgery, and he is thrilled to offer his expertise to the people of Northland.

In 2016, he completed another year of higher specialist training in Microsurgery at Leeds General Infirmary in the UK. This is where he also gained further training in congenital hand deformities and was also fortunate enough to be involved in the national hand transplant programme which was based in Leeds. 

in 2017, Chris was awarded the European Diploma in Hand Surgery and in that same year, Chris did higher specialist training in cosmetic surgery at the prestigious London Clinic. Here he honed his skills in facial plastic surgery techniques, aesthetic breast surgery and body contouring such as abdominoplasty and liposuction.

At the end of his training, Chris took up consultant plastic surgeon posts at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and then Wexham Park Hospital in the UK for 4 years before coming to New Zealand in March 2021 to take up a post as consultant plastic surgeon at Whangarei Hospital and joined Northland Plastic Surgery soon after. He became the principal surgeon for our practice in 2022.

Chris enjoys teaching and often gets invited nationally and internationally to provide training to the next generation of surgeons.
