Fixation of hand and wrist bone fractures
Hand and wrist bones are commonly broken as a result of falls or accidents. Many can heal without operations if immobilised correctly in a splint or a plaster after assessment by a health professional. If fractures are not diagnosed early they can fail to heal (non-union) or heal in a poor position (malunion).
The scaphoid bone in the wrist is commonly fractured. Scaphoid fractures are particularly important as they may result in long term arthritis when not treated appropriately.
If you think that you have a problem in your hand as a result of a new or old fracture Mr Powell will be happy to assess you and guide you with regards to the management that suits you best.
